Since our opening in late November of 2009, several customers have questioned whether we owned a store before. Something about the place looks so familiar. Perhaps, it is the warm and inviting colors found on our walls and in our fabrics. Maybe, it is the beautiful quilts and linens that dress the bedroom. Or, is it the spectacular fireplace that centers a timeless atmosphere? Did they just walk into a refined home with tasteful appointments? As a matter of fact, some have recognized the essence of a previous store. Beautiful oil paintings by Susan Holve and the apparent love of animals provide a clue to our past.
Maybe, now, they remember a small and uncommon store that was just up the street. It had an old fashioned porch, chocolate clapboard siding and a red door. The hand stenciled plank flooring echoed places found in Nantucket or Martha's Vineyard. The store was called The Crimson Rooster and it was owned by Michael McHugh and his partner Tom Connor. From April 1998 to September of 2002, Michael developed a loyal clientele and transformed the interiors of homes throughout the Valley and the Westside. Sadly, Tom's passing led to the close of the store.
Serendipity brought together some auspicious forces in 2009. Michael is now joined by his sister Beth Matustik and his brother-in-law Pavel Matustik. Not unlike The Crimson Rooster, Filigree is a unique home furnishings store with a style that one might call rustically refined. Simple yet sophisticated furnishings and accessories create an environment that is authentically classic and organic. French dinnerware and Irish linen placemats and napkins mingle with dining chairs that are slipcovered in German grain-sack and surround a refectory dining table made from reclaimed Brazilian walnut. An antique window frame from Beijing supported by a contemporary cold roll stainless steel frame creates a one-of-a-kind coffee table and adds that unexpected element of surprise. Suzani pillows mix effortlessly with bold block prints from John Robshaw and Les Indiennes. Bamboo window shades, Indian dhurries, and American woven rugs complete your experience and all is meant to please your eye and inspire your imagination.
Our personalized in-home design service is the final element that puts us in a league of our own. Whether you simply want to give a fresh twist to your existing décor, or you are embarking on a major renovation, we have the expertise to guide you through every phase. Michael's talent for design combined with an extensive partnership with architects, contractors and competent trade workers positions Filigree to facilitate projects of any size from inception to completion.
So, one might say that Filigree has everything to offer in fine interior design. The only thing missing is you and we look forward to the pleasure of your company.
You'll leave Filigree feeling like you just made a brief trip to the Hamptons.
